Dear Friend,

The Jackson Heights neighborhood in Queens, New York is one of the most diverse neighborhoods - home to varieties of different ethnicities, including the new wave of increasing immigrants from the Himalayan countries - Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and Northeast India.

A Nepali filmmaker Kesang Tseten spent a year documenting every aspect of lives - from rallies to language classes to gatherings in Adhikaar’s community and worker center. Kesang helped document Adhikaar’s work, and through his film “Diversity Plaza” - he helps us see the vibrant communities and tells the tales of thousands of untold stories. He captures critical moments from campaigning to learning new skills that help shift the narrative of new immigrants - especially from the Himalayan communities.

The film will be screened in person at IFC Center and Village East on November 14th. And for those who are not based in NYC, you can watch the film online as well from November 13 to 26. For more information, check out their film website.

Sincerely,

The Adhikaar team
