Dear John,

As the NIRH staff and Board continue to grieve the sudden passing of Andrea Miller, our president for the last twelve years, we stand unwavering in our commitment to securing reproductive freedom for all. To help guide us through the coming months, the NIRH and NIRH Action Fund boards have named an interim president, Aisha Mills [[link removed]], to lead the organization as we launch a nationwide search for a new president.

Aisha joined NIRH AF’s Board of Directors in 2019 and brings with her more than two decades of federal policy, non-profit leadership, and political experience. In the span of her career, she has served at the helm of organizations including the LGBTQ Victory Fund and Institute and the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee; led policy initiatives at think tanks, including the Center for American Progress; and staffed political campaigns from Louisiana and Texas to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. She founded Mills Strategies, where she has advised on public health policy strategies like obtaining FDA approval for the first over-the-counter birth control regimen. Aisha’s wide array of experience across political, policy, and communications will provide NIRH and its Action Fund with a steady hand as we move into a new chapter of state and local reproductive freedom advocacy.

Andrea left an enduring mark on our movement, as described so movingly in a recent piece in The Nation [[link removed]]. Today, we honor that legacy by moving forward to secure our shared vision: a just and caring nation, where everyone can determine the course of their reproductive and family lives with dignity and joy.

We will close this email with a quote from Aisha as she takes on this important role:

“As a Black, queer woman, I know the history of state and local policies all too often marginalized people who share my identities. That is why the work of NIRH and its Action Fund has been personally important. We know, despite our grief over Andrea’s sudden passing, now is the time to keep the momentum for reproductive freedom — including abortion access, contraception, and birth equity — moving into 2024. May Andrea’s legacy live on through each of us engaged in the work she loved so much.”

Thank you so much for standing with us — your support meant the world to Andrea and will be critical in the days ahead. Please contact me if you would like any additional information.
