In March 2024, we will be marking Born Free’s 40th anniversary with a fabulous evening of inspirational stories, fine dining, thrilling entertainment, and dancing. I do hope you can join us to celebrate our shared passion for wild animals, at this stunning London venue.

Footsteps to Freedom will be the launch event of Born Free’s special year and I am delighted to announce that our exclusive, black-tie gala will be hosted by Born Free’s long-standing friend and animal champion, Amanda Holden – actor, broadcaster, and star of Britain’s Got Talent.
An array of distinguished guests and friends will also include our beloved Founder Patron, Dame Joanna Lumley.
Joanna has, of course, been a loyal friend to Born Free since our very first day, nearly 40 years ago, when Bill, Will and I officially launched our charity at London’s Commonwealth Institute on 19th March 1984 – headlining national news. Since then, she has been endlessly loyal and supportive, promoting our campaigns, narrating our videos, even relocating a herd of giraffe in Kenya, with Will and the Kenya Wildlife Service!
Amanda has supported us for over 20 years, helping rescue lions from a circus, rehoming tigers to our sanctuary in India – she has even run the London Marathon to raise funds for Born Free.

The evening will include:
A Warm Welcome: A welcome aperitif upon arrival and a warm, personal welcome from my son Will, the Born Free team and our Patrons, as you and other guests mingle in the beautiful surroundings of The Royal Lancaster
Dinner: Three courses of fine dining, including wine, with coffee and petit fours to finish
Inspiration & Entertainment: Incredible live performances, inspirational guest speakers, and stories of courage and tenacity make for an unforgettable atmosphere
Live Auction: Hosted by Born Free Patron, TV auctioneer James Lewis, bid for exclusive items and unrepeatable experiences, with all proceeds going directly to our charity

Dancing: Conclude the night on the dance floor with our live band
Forty years is a long time. But the journey has been worth it! I think we can all look back on our achievements with pride and look ahead to the future with a sense of optimism. Together, we can continue to make things better.
My eldest son Will, who has led us from day one, along with the Born Free team, cannot wait to welcome you and many other loyal supporters to this landmark event. And I really hope to be able to see you there too.
