Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden by 5 points in Michigan, according to a new poll that just came out from the New York Times and Siena College.
So what does this mean? While all polls should be taken with a grain of salt, this one makes clear what all Michiganders know: that Michigan is NOT a solidly blue state, and we need to be doing everything we can right now to set us up for success on Election Day to protect the White House and defend the Senate.
Despite Democrats’ success last year, Michigan is a swing state by nature and numbers, and will absolutely flip red under the right conditions, as we did in 2016. After all, as a swing state, you tend to swing.
With a presidential election on the ballot, this election cycle is especially susceptible to that pendulum. And given that this latest poll shows Trump up by 5 points, it's clear that Michigan is going to be among the most competitive states in 2024. Here are the numbers:

Donald Trump: 48%
National Republicans view Michigan as a key battleground state for both the presidential race and the senate, which is why we’ve already seen two visits from Trump and why we can expect to see even more. In addition, we know that millions of dollars from megadonors and Super PACs is on the way to prop up our eventual opponent. That’s why I’m focused on ensuring our campaign has the resources necessary to fight back against the impending attack ads and outside spending.
This is why I say that the most important time to donate is early: Early support helps us be strategic and intentional about how we’re reaching voters. And in a race that will be as competitive as ours, we need to allocate our resources as efficiently as possible.
The path to keeping the White House blue and protecting the Senate majority runs through Michigan. And our swing-state status makes us a battleground. Every. Single. Time. That’s why I would love to earn your support.
