Christmas is coming! In the lead up to Christmas there are some festive local events which are free and everyone is welcome. Come along to the light switch on ceremonies and enjoy hot drinks, activities and music.
- Canning Circus on Tuesday 21 of November at 4pm.
- Woodside Road shops on Wednesday 29 November starting at 4pm.
- Kennington Road on Friday 1 December at 4:30pm at the park and play area near Southwold school.
Work started in October to improve congestion along Thane Road heading towards the ring road, by increasing junction capacity at the mini-roundabout where it meets Lenton Lane.
As part of the new footway, a new smooth surface will be provided and lighting columns moved out of the way to create a new shared-use unobstructed facility for pedestrians and cyclists. This work continues the programme of improvements to accommodate increasing levels of cycling in our city.

The Lenton and Wollaton East ward day of action took place on 10th of November.
Councillors did litter-picks in different parts of the ward and visited areas of the ward that experience fly tipping. Councillors attended a door knocking session alongside the University of Nottingham to talk to tenants of houses of multiple occupants about how to correctly use bins and to address issues of ASB and transient noise concerns.
Over 135 resurfacing schemes have been completed so far across the city.
In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.
Nottingham City Council has approved ÂŁ11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around. Work is due to be complete in March 2024. Streets that have been improved so far include:
-
Roads - Arnesby Road, Broughton Drive and Church Street
-
Paths - Austrey Avenue, Hawton Spinney and Olton Avenue
We are also setting money aside for tree work and bin replacements. You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.
Local community groups can apply to the ward members budgets through the Councillors for small grants for projects which benefit residents in Lenton and Wollaton East. Grants have recently been awarded for football posts, Jubilee events and equipment for a community café.
Gambling can affect physical and mental health, damage relationships and leave people feeling lonely and isolated. It can also cause problems with employment, education, housing and lead to serious debt. Â
Gambling-related harm is under-recognised and often hidden. Many people being harmed by gambling don’t see themselves as a person with a problem and don’t recognise the issues it’s causing. When people do recognise they may have a problem, it can be hard to talk about it, or to reach out for help because of guilt, shame or worry. Â
If you notice that you, or someone you know is feeling stressed, anxious, thinking about gambling a lot of the time, or hiding their gambling from others, it could be a sign of gambling harm.

You can make difference for children in Nottingham by becoming a foster carer. The number of children in care in Nottingham is at a record high and we need more carers to provide children with a safe, secure and loving home. A home where they can thrive, grow and reach their potential.
Fostering is looking after a child when they can’t live with their own family. This can be for a couple of days, a few months, or many years. The children come from a range of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
As a foster carer with Nottingham City Council you will get a weekly allowance. The allowance varies according to the child’s age and number of children you foster.
