President makes abrupt turn [link removed] GIVE NOW to Defend Our Endangered Benefits! [link removed] Dear John,

Incredibly, President Trump just doubled down [link removed] on his plans to cut so-called "entitlements" during a Fox News town hall event in Pennsylvania. In response to the host suggesting, if "you don't cut something in entitlements, you will never really deal with the debt," President Trump quickly responded, "oh, we'll be cutting."
Look, no matter who you support in the White House, we cannot let these casual attacks against Social Security and Medicare stand. These are your earned benefits we're talking about — and that the President is discussing so casually! I think you'll agree, your retirement and health security are not partisan issues, they are issues that impact every single older American no matter their party affiliation.

Yet, the President now appears poised to break his solemn pledge to his constituents that he wouldn’t touch Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. And our job here at the National Committee is to hold him accountable for these critical promises that mean so much to millions of older Americans like you. Incredibly, it seems like every time we turn around, the President is proposing cuts to our nation's social safety net programs! Like many so-called 'fiscal hawks" in Washington who are ideologically opposed to earned benefits, he's now threatening to use funding for the programs relied on by millions of older Americans as leverage to pay down soaring budget deficits. The fact is, our nation's more than $23 trillion debt has dramatically soared under President Trump, in large part due to costly unpaid-for tax cuts that benefit the super-rich and multinational corporations — and have done little to help lower- and middle-income Americans. That's why we need to be ready to EXPOSE and STOP any reckless scheme that targets earned benefits in order to fund unrelated programs. So please help the National Committee keep our advocacy, education and grassroots efforts on your behalf strong in the weeks and months ahead by chipping in a gift today! [link removed] With your support, we'll continue to remind the President and members of Congress that Social Security and Medicare are earned benefits, they are not "entitlements" — and they should not be used as a piggy bank to pay for the Trump-GOP tax law or any other reckless tax-and-borrowing scheme. The fact is: the biggest threats to our economy are massive unpaid-for tax breaks for huge corporations, millionaires and billionaires — not Social Security and Medicare. So our elected officials, including President Trump, should leave our nation's social insurance programs alone! Sincerely, Max Richtman
President & CEO
