Hi ,

(Lea este boletín de noticias en español) ([link removed])

Early Saturday morning, our Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a significant blaze under the I-10 Freeway east of Downtown Los Angeles.

The Emergency Operations Center was quickly activated and since then, we have taken action to rapidly respond to the damage through a coordinated effort ([link removed]) with CalTrans, Governor Newsom, and other state and local partners.
Damage to the I-10 is still being assessed and it will be CLOSED in both directions between the East L.A. interchange and Alameda St. until further notice.

** Traffic impact and routes
------------------------------------------------------------
As you start your commute on Monday morning, if you are traveling to or through Downtown Los Angeles, we encourage you to consider taking Metro transit. Routes are available at Metro.net.

If you need to drive and you are taking the freeway – particularly the 10 freeway, we encourage you to stay on a freeway and transfer to another interchange on your way to your final destination.

** Route around Downtown Los Angeles
------------------------------------------------------------
Heading Westbound on the 10 freeway, exit on 7th street, if you miss it – the last exit is Santa Fe and San Mateo before reaching closure.

Heading Eastbound before entering Downtown Los Angeles, you can merge on the 110 freeway. If you miss the interchange, you can access downtown streets using the Alameda exit.

I know that this closure will impact hundreds of thousands of Angelenos who commute or live by the area, but we have to STAY INFORMED ([link removed]) , heed traffic warnings and follow detour routes.

Before starting your commute, please be sure to:
* Plan ahead
* Check travel times
* Drive safely
* Ride Metro

I want to thank our Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Crowley and the entire department for working around the clock to extinguish the fire. This weekend, I joined teams on the ground ([link removed]) to assess the damage and thank the firefighters and crews who have been working on this incident.
We will work night and day to get I-10 up and running as quickly as possible.

I am in touch with the White House and the Governor’s Office to ensure that there are
no barriers to getting this portion of the 10 Freeway rebuilt.

During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, CalTrans worked around the clock to complete emergency repairs to the freeways – it's clear that this structural damage calls for the same level of urgency and effort.

I will be giving another update at 6:00 am Monday morning along with local and state leaders.
