Williams Weekly
Dear Texans,
It has been another busy week in Washington, D.C. addressing the important issues facing our state, our nation, and the world. Rest assured, I am fighting each day to keep our communities safe and uphold the values of our district. Read below for an update on my work serving you.
Honoring Our Nation's Heroes
On Veterans Day, we honor the men and women who have committed their lives to serving our great nation. It is my greatest privilege to represent our veterans in Congress. This weekend, join me in reflecting on the blessings of freedom and liberty that our heroes have fought to secure for future generations. To our veterans in TX-25 and across the country, our thanks will never be enough for your courage and sacrifice. Thank you for your service and may God bless the United States of America.
Small Business Committee Hearing
This week I led a hearing to examine the detrimental effects of the Department of Energy’s regulations on our nation’s job creators. With Biden's misguided economic policies and increased regulatory requirements, small businesses are finding it harder to make ends meet while Main Street America is forced to foot the bill for this Administration’s radical climate agenda. Not only are these new standards forcing businesses to adhere to never ending rules and regulations, but they are reducing consumer choice in the marketplace. I believe that competition and consumer preference should be what determines what is produced, not government mandates. As Chairman and a small business owner myself I will always fight against burdensome regulations that are crippling hard working American families and business owners and fight each day to bring affordability back to Main Street. Watch the hearing here.
Holding the SBA Accountable
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the SBA lost an estimated $200 billion to fraud in their lending programs. Rather than taking all steps possible to recoup these lost taxpayer dollars, the SBA continues to try to increase their size and take on more responsibility. Congress alone has the ability to authorize new programs, but this past year the SBA has made a pilot program permanent through the rulemaking process. This is unacceptable and my amendment makes it clear that this agency must respect the rule of law and not undermine Congressional authority. We must protect American taxpayer dollars from the SBA's attempts to expand lending activities, especially given the agency's abysmal track record over the last few years relating to fraud. As Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, I have fought to hold the SBA accountable and increase transparency. My amendment is a common sense approach to help entrepreneurs, Main Street, promote capitalism, and strengthen our economy. Watch my floor remarks here.
Financial Services Committee Hearing
Despite Chairman Powell asserting before the Financial Services Committee that the Federal Reserve “is not, and will not be, a climate policymaker,” his agency’s actions have shown otherwise. It is concerning that financial regulators under the Biden Administration are calling for climate policies to be included in banking regulations, which extends the federal banking system beyond its intended purpose and threatens the agencies’ long-term independence. Watch my line of questioning here.
In Case You Missed It
I joined Mornings With Maria to discuss the top issues facing our nation. From Biden's weakness on the world stage to the DOE’s crippling regulations targeting America’s job creators, it is clear that America is worse off in Joe Biden’s America. This Administration’s attack on Main Street is costing jobs, hurting small businesses, and derailing our economy and Biden’s failure to secure our nation and put America first continues to put lives at risk. Watch the full interview here.
In God we trust,
