FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #40 Dear Friends/Amigos, First, I would like to offer my most sincere thanks to the 14,000 veterans who call District 27 home. The success of America would not be possible were it not for those who so selflessly risked their lives for all of us. Last week, I secured important policy wins on issues affecting my constituents, from immigration to climate resiliency. Read more about these victories for our community below! As always, my office remains a resource ready to serve our constituents. Feel free to call my Miami office at (305) 668-2285 with any questions. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) MY REJECT LATINX ACT WAS PASSED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES! In a vote late Wednesday night, the House of Representatives passed my amendment to ban the Biden Administration from using the term "Latinx" to refer to Americans of Hispanic descent. Even though the overwhelming majority (almost 90%) of Hispanics in the United States REJECT using the term "Latinx" to refer to themselves, the Biden Administration continues to use it in public-facing communications to appease woke activists. By passing my amendment, the House of Representatives told the White House to respect Hispanics like the ones who live in my District, and the language we all share. Read more about my amendment HERE. Listen to my remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives in defense of the Reject Latinx Act HERE. Escuche mis comentarios en la Cámara de Representantes en defensa de la Ley "Reject Latinx" AQUÍ. THE DIGNITY ACT IS GAINING MAJOR TRACTION IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES! I am proud to announce that the Dignity Act, my bipartisan immigration reform legislation, has secured support from 25 Members of Congress and over 50 stakeholder organizations across the country. As immigration inevitably comes up during debates to avoid a government shutdown, my bill is the only viable solution presented by anyone in the House of Representatives. I often like to say that my Dignity Act is complete, as it completely secures our southern border while boosting our economy and allowing undocumented immigrants living in the United States to live with dignity. Read more about the Dignity Act's spectacular progress HERE. ¡Lea más sobre el espectacular progreso de la Ley Dignidad AQUÍ! I CONFRONTED THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ON LATIN AMERICAN SOCIALIST ANTISEMITISM! On Wednesday, I confronted the Biden Administration's senior Middle East official on the rampant antisemitism coming from socialist governments across Latin America. From Colombian President Gustavo Petro's horrific comparison of Jews to the Nazis to the Cuban regime meeting with Hamas officials in Lebanon, antisemitism is on the rise right in our backyard. As the State of Israel continues to wage its defensive war against Hamas, our leaders must ensure anti-Jewish hatred does not spread into our hemisphere. As I expected, the official was completely unaware of what I was even talking about. The United States government cannot afford to be in the dark on these issues at a time as critical as now. We need leadership, and I'm not seeing it. Read more about my line of questioning at the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing HERE. I INTRODUCED LEGISLATION TO PROTECT MIAMI'S COASTS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME! Last week, I introduced the National Coordination on Adaptation and Resilience for Security (NCARS) Act! As Miami faces increasing risk from flooding and storms, the need to formulate and execute a strategic plan to protect us from extreme weather is greater than ever. South Florida faces unique climate and environmental challenges that must be addressed, like sea level rise and saltwater intrusion into the Everglades. Critically, Florida’s 27th congressional district is a coastal community in need of climate-resilient infrastructure to protect our future generations. My bill streamlines federal processes and resources to ensure District 27 has access to an efficient and effective climate resilience strategy. Every dollar we invest in climate resilience saves roughly $6 when disaster strikes. This investment is good for Miami and good for the United States. Read more about the NCARS Act HERE.
