While we’ve been laser-focused on Capitol Hill, fighting Speaker Mike Johnson’s commission to destroy Social Security and Medicare, the Republican presidential candidates held another televised debate. One headline caught our eye in the coverage:

This sparring over Social Security is something Republicans usually try to keep under wraps. Even when they talk about their concern over the program’s financial future, they try to cover up their preferred solutions. But Chris Christie was completely clear when he said that there are only three things that could possibly be done with Social Security: raise the retirement age, cut some people out of the program, or raise taxes. And he won’t even consider raising taxes.

80% of the public supports raising taxes on billionaires and the ultra-wealthy and applying some of that money to Social Security -- especially since billionaires like Elon Musk or Donald Trump only pay Social Security taxes on their first $160,000 of wages. In fact, most Democrats in Congress support some version of increasing benefits for our seniors -- something that's also 80% popular with voters.

Polling shows voters are not aware that Republicans want to cut Social Security. Are you up for working with us to make this a top issue in 2024?
