Republican Speaker Mike Johnson is as extreme as they come. Although many of his stances are abhorrent to everything I believe as a Christian, mother, and champion of West Michiganders, I am particularly furious at Mike Johnson’s extensive anti-LGBTQ+ record.
He has called the LGBTQ+ community a “deviant group.” He has implied that equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community could lead to pedophilia and individuals marrying their pets. He has even partnered with anti-gay conversion therapy groups before he became a politician.
The list of his anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry goes on. Recently, when asked about these horrific views, he told his opponents to “go pick up a Bible.”
Well, as a proud Christian, I read the Bible, and I will never cherrypick Bible verses to fuel a message of hate. I believe in a loving God who could not care less about the gender of who you love.
Mike Johnson’s bigotry and extremism have no home in West Michigan or the United States House of Representatives. 2024 is our opportunity to kick Mike Johnson out of power and show strong support for the LGBTQ+ community by taking back the House.
