Patriots,
Before being elected as a Republican Member of Congress from Florida, I spent 12 years in the U.S. Army, including working under the elite Joint Special Operations Command. While I was serving in Afghanistan, I worked as a bomb disposal expert, clearing safe paths for my fellow soldiers pushing into Taliban territory. The last bomb that I discovered exploded beneath me, causing the loss of both of my legs and my left index finger.
All that I have ever wanted to do was serve my country—first on the battlefield for the U.S. Armed Forces, and once my injury made that impossible, on a different kind of battlefield in Washington, D.C. For me, service has always been more important than self.
But even after just a short period of time engaged in this new battle, it is clear that far too many politicians don’t approach their job with this mindset. Our country deserves better than out-of-touch politicians who put themselves before the people that they represent.
That’s why I’m working with Lieutenant General Jack Bergman (Ret.) to help elect more conservative veterans to Congress. Whether serving as a Three-Star General in the Marine Corps, carrying passengers safely from one destination to another as a pilot, or serving as a conservative Congressman from Michigan, General Bergman has always been committed to serving others. I am honored to work with him on this important mission!
