My work in TX-31 and Congress Howdy Texan – Happy Veterans Day! Today we celebrate the brave men and women who have selflessly served our great nation. Without America's veterans, we would not be the greatest country on earth. To all of our veterans in Texas' 31st district, thank you for your service. ON THE DOCKET: Georgetown Veterans Day Field of Honor What do you think? Holding DHS Accountable Last Servicemember Standing Act THE BRIEF: Texas homeowners and businesses will get potentially thousands of dollars cut from their property tax bills in the coming years after voters Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment that changes how public schools are funded. The Internal Revenue Service announced its annual inflation adjustments to federal income-tax brackets for 2024 Thursday, an increase that slightly outpaces the current inflation rate. The war between Israel and Hamas has led to a surge in hate-filled incidents aimed at Jews, new NYPD crime data shows. GEORGETOWN VETERANS DAY CEREMONY I spoke at the Sun City Veterans Day Ceremony in Georgetown this morning. Several hundred patriots joined together to honor the service of America's heroes and celebrate Veterans Day. Since this country was born, men and women have selflessly sworn to protect it, and it's because America is worth fighting for. I was immensely grateful to be a part of today's ceremony. Thank you to all of America's veterans. FIELD OF HONOR I attended the opening ceremony of the Georgetown Field of Honor. The Field of Honor is a stunning display of American flags in honor of Veterans Day. Each flag is dedicated to a current servicemember or veteran. It's a beautiful tribute to the men and women who have selflessly served our nation. WHAT DO YOU THINK? Some progressive Democrats are calling for a complete and lasting ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Do you support a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas? Yes No HOLDING DHS ACCOUNTABLE FOR MISUSE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS With America's borders in shambles, Americans deserve to know that their hard-earned tax dollars are being used appropriately to address the border crisis. After a report from the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General revealed the mishandling of over $73 million, that was given to local recipient organizations, I led 15 Republican members in sending a letter to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas requesting his plan to rectify the misuse of taxpayers' hard-earned money. As your representative, I'm committed to rooting our waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars. To read the full letter, click here. HONORING THE LAST SERVICEMEMBER STANDING Due to service medal guidelines that require a witness to attest to outstanding acts of bravery, many lone survivors of battle are unsung heroes. I believe that the men and women who commit incredible acts of valor, even as their brothers and sisters in arms make the ultimate sacrifice, deserve recognition. I joined Rep. Marcy Kaptur to introduce the Last Servicemember Standing Medal Act this week. The bill would create a new military service medal to honor the active-duty warriors who demonstrate immense bravery to complete a mission even as they stand alone on the battlefield. As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates. Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website! WC Willamson County 4411 S I 35 Frontage Rd.
