Their valor, selflessness, and courage are invaluable lessons to us all. Veterans Day is about more than honoring those who served.

It’s about holding up our end of the social contract and taking care of our veterans and their families when they return home.

San Diego has the second-highest population of homeless veterans in the entire country. They deserve better and we can change that.

At the City, I worked to create job training programs and an affordable home buying program for first-time homeowners.

I will take this same multi-pronged approach to creating solutions for our County — because I know our housing issue is too complex for a one-size-fits-all solution.

But complexity cannot be an excuse for inaction.

San Diego is second only to Los Angeles in the number of homeless veterans. That number should be zero.
