This Veterans Day, we pause to honor the Americans who have bravely served in our military. We are grateful for the courage you have shown and the sacrifices you have made to defend our nation and our values.

San Diego is home to the largest concentration of military personnel in the nation. Nearly 100,000 active duty service members live, work and raise their families here — including a third of the entire Marine Corps and 60% of the entire fleet of Navy ships.

Because military service is so deeply valued in our community, we are also home to one of the largest populations of veterans in the nation.

I am grateful to all those who have served, and their families, for your brave service and selfless sacrifice. I want you to know that I have always advocated for our service members and veterans in Congress to have better access to the support and benefits you’ve earned, and I am committed to continuing the fight for affordable healthcare, education and housing.

Today, and every day, we are grateful to our service members and veterans for defending our freedom and protecting our democracy.
