Today we celebrate International Women's Day in the midst of Women's History Month. In New Mexico we have a rich history of trailblazing women who have paved the way for women, not just in New Mexico, but also across the country.

Here are some of New Mexico's powerful history-making firsts:

• Elected one of the first Native American women to Congress
• Elected the most female court of appeals in the United States as well as first African American appointed to New Mexico's court of appeals
• Elected New Mexico's first woman and Latina Land Commissioner in New Mexico
• Elected the first woman and Latina to represent Southern New Mexico in Congress

But the history books are not complete yet!

In the coming weeks, Emerge New Mexico will add to the rich history of training democratic women. We will announce our 2020 cohort members who will add to the over 350 women trained! We cannot think of a better way to celebrate International Women's Day and Women's History Month than to have a Kickoff Reception on Friday, March 27, 2020, at 6:30 pm, where we will begin training the next generation of New Mexico's women political leaders who will make their own history.
