Women across the country are rising up, running for office, stepping up in local party leadership positions, leading organizations and serving in so many ways. Women are the real difference makers and movers and shakers in our communities.

These mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers are fighting every single day to make sure the women of future generations receive better and more equal opportunities.

I am fortunate to serve with, for the first time ever, more than 100 women in the House of Representatives. I am constantly inspired by the women of the 116th Congress, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and my fellow Connecticut Representatives Jahana Hayes and Rosa DeLauro. It’s an honor to serve with these strong leaders.

Today is International Women's Day, but this movement is not just about one day. Just like Women's History Month isn't just a month. These initiatives are our mission, and we must lead on them every single day.

This year's theme is Each for Equal. An equal world is an enabled world. We must work toward a balanced workplace, equal pay for equal work, paid family leave and access to health care and reproductive rights. Gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive.

We have more work to do, but I remain committed to fighting alongside you to advance women's rights and achieve gender equality.
