Today is International Women’s Day -- a day to celebrate the incredible contributions women have made to our society, honor the women who have impacted our lives, and pledge our commitment to furthering women’s rights everywhere.
In 2018, I was honored to be included in the slate of Democratic women who were elected to the House. And in 2020, I am thrilled to see even more women across the country standing up to join us in the fight for equality and working families.
The advancement of women in our society is essential to our country and economy. It’s why we must do everything we can to promote women’s rights across the board. Some of the best ways we can support women is by believing them, hiring them, electing them, and making sure they have the resources and support they need to uplift their families, careers, and communities.
We must also fight to ensure the advancement of women in our nation is intersectional – regardless of race, religion, education, or economic background.
I look forward to a world where young girls, like my daughters Grace and Caroline, believe in themselves and envision the heights to which they can soar. I know we’re on the right path now, but I also know we’re not there yet.
So, today, take a moment to appreciate all the women in your life that you admire – for their intelligence, grit, perseverance, and power. And then, let’s remember the work we have left to do and get right to it.
Happy International Women’s Day!
