Woof. Am I right? GOP front-runner Trent Leisy hugs the flag in an empty display of faux-patriotism.
John,
My likely GOP opponent Trent Leisy and I are both veterans, but we are miles apart on issues concerning veterans, and on pretty much everything else.
And like most law-abiding Americans, I think a huge issue of concern with ultra-MAGA candidates like Trent Leisy is that they believe violence and insurrection are acceptable when their candidates lose.
I served 19 years in the U.S. Marine Corps with my share of combat deployments after our democracy was attacked on September 11, 2001. But you don't have to be a veteran to know that democracy and the rule of law are actually requirements for real freedom.
Anyone who says Trump and the January 6th mob were exercising protected freedoms is dangerous. As we look at the issues facing us today and in the future, we know that the biggest threats to American democracy are internal threats like the white supremacist and neo-fascist groups who knew January 6th was going to get violent - because they were there to commit violence.
Preserving democracy and freedom is at the heart of every veteran's service. The people of this district and this nation deserve nothing less.
I'm running for Congress because the way Trent Leisy and Trump view America, truly all our freedoms are on the line.
Thank you to all my fellow veterans, as well as to all the families and communities who support us, and who we fight for.
Semper fi,
-Isaac "Ike" McCorkle
