Quixote Center in Gros Morne, Haiti

In Fiscal Year 2023 Quixote Center's agro-forestry work in Haiti directly impacted over 800 families, over 1000 elementary school children, and hundreds more small-scale farmers and cooperative members. Indirectly our reforestation work impacts all 11,000 members of the population of Gros Morne and surrounding areas.

Quixote Center partners with organizations In Haiti to address the root causes of Haiti's three interrelated crises: extreme violence, migration, and hunger. We dream of the day when every Haitian family and community is thriving, in dignity and security.

Thank you for supporting our Haitian Dinner & discussion!

 

This week, Quixote Center hosted a Haitian dinner to fundraise for our programs in and discuss pathways to sustainable change in Haiti.We had a full house at the Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine restaurant in Silver Spring.

Our Executive Director, Kim Lamberty, presented Quixote Center's theory of change in Haiti, which involves a two-pronged approach of advocacy in the US on policies that impact Haiti, either negatively or positively, and meaningful economic development that ends poverty and promotes the dignity and well-being of Haitian families and communities.

Claudette David, the national legislative director of National Haitian-American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON), and a DC ANC Commissioner, spoke about the importance of advocacy and NHAEON's priorities in the coming months. We thank all of our friends and supporters who turned out for the event!

 

Tell Congress our 5 Nonviolent Solutions for Haiti

The violence in Haiti is untenable. Gang violence in Haiti has killed over 1,230 people between July and September of this year alone. In response, the United Nations, with U.S. leadership, has authorized Kenya to deploy troops on the ground. This U.S.-backed police intervention will only escalate the violence, and more violence is never the solution. Tell your members of Congress ([link removed]) to take these five, concrete steps for peace.

"M" - Marie Genevieve Morin

Marie Genevieve Morin or "M" is a self-taught artist born and based in Montreal. M was the youngest child in a family of five adopted children, and her upbringing would lead her on a journey to explore her heritage and reacquaint herself with her Haitian family and roots.

Through art, M escapes, releases her emotions and frustrations, and creates a "safe place" where she can express her inner self. M's paintings are raw and intense, embodying her quest to understand her heritage, discover her identity and pay homage to her Haitian roots.
