Friend,
One year ago today, I celebrated one of the best moments of my first year as a Congressman as the U.S. House passed H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a bill that I had fought for since my first day in Congress.
H.R. 1 tackles corruption, expands voter rights, increases transparency in political spending and expands the power of lower-dollar contributors.
But for a year since, Mitch McConnell has refused to hold a vote on this critical bill. Instead, he's stood with the special interests who oppose these reforms in an attempt to cling to power in Washington.
Americans sent a clear message in the 2018 elections: They demanded reforms to put power in the hands of voters, not special interests. Mitch McConnell's shameful obstruction is a direct affront to the demands of American voters, and it's why I need your help to send him a message.
On this important anniversary, join me, groups like End Citizens United, and campaign finance advocates across the country in demanding that the Senate pass the For the People Act immediately and join us in achieving bold campaign finance reform.
One year ago today, we made history. Now, join me in making history again -- this time, by showing an unprecedented outpouring of grassroots support for this vital bill.
Here's the thing about getting money out of politics. We can't do this alone. It can't just be me, or my fellow campaign finance champions in the House of Representatives.
If we're going to get this passed over the opposition of Mitch McConnell and the special interests backing him, we're going to need every single person, and every single voice, speaking up in unison.
Join us. Call for the passage of the For the People Act to put power back in the hands of voters!
Thank you,
Dean
