*Gov. Whitmer Proclaims November 11 as Veterans Day*?

*LANSING, Mich. ?* Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer proclaimed November 11 as Veterans Day, honoring Michigan's more than 530,000 veterans and all those who served before them.???

?

"On Veterans Day, we celebrate the Michiganders who served our state and nation in uniform and honor those who are no longer with us," said *Governor Whitmer*. "Let?s ensure the more than 530,000 veterans who call our great state home have the support they need to thrive. Let?s keep working together so they can get good-paying jobs, affordable housing, and quality health care. Michigan will always fight for those who fought for us."???

?This Veterans Day offers more reason than ever to think about what military service means and what it means to be a veteran," said *U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers, adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs*. "With less than 10% of all U.S. adults identifying as veterans, we owe each of them our deepest gratitude for their willingness to answer the call to serve and assure the safety of our state and nation.??

While there are many ways to celebrate Veterans Day, including flying the U.S. flag, volunteering at a local veterans home or simply thanking a veteran for his or her service, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) encourages veterans to look into their earned benefits by calling 1-800-MICH-VET.????

?As a Marine Corps veteran myself and the son of a Vietnam veteran, Veterans Day holds a very special meaning to me and my entire family,? said *MVAA Director Brian L. Love*. ?It?s a day set aside to truly honor those who have served this great nation. It also provides a great opportunity to let all our Michigan veterans know that the MVAA stands ready to help connect them to the benefits and resources they earned for their service.??

Originally known as Armistice Day, and designated by Congress in 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill into law on May 26, 1954 naming it Veterans Day.
