Friends -- I need your help to put pressure on Mitch McConnell.
A year ago today, I voted to pass HR 1 -- the For The People Act -- to fix our broken political system and end the corrosive influence of dark money in politics. For too long, our American democracy has been under attack from corporate and special interests buying their way into Congress, and this legislation can restore it.
But listen: A year later, that bill is STILL sitting idle on Mitch McConnell’s desk. The longer he refuses to bring this bill to a vote on the Senate floor, the longer he is putting politics over people -- and that's just not right.
That's why I'm asking you to be one of the 20,000 citizen co-sponsors we need to demand Mitch McConnell to do his job and bring the For the People Act to a vote. This cannot wait another day, so please, add your name now. >>
While I’m incredibly disappointed by Mitch McConnell’s inaction, I’m sadly not surprised. He buried this legislation to protect his own interests and the interests of his wealthy donors.
The fact is, Upstate New Yorkers deserve better from DC elites like McConnell -- who has been in Washington pulling the strings for decades. The For the People Act wouldn’t just put an end to this deep-rooted corruption; it would also open up our democracy by expanding voting hours and safeguard our elections by requiring the FEC to investigate and report on illicit foreign money.
I’m proud to have led these advancements, but we absolutely cannot sit by and let Mitch McConnell block one of the most sweeping democracy reform bills from becoming the law of the land.
Please, I need you to be one of our 20,000 citizen co-sponsors on our petition calling on Mitch McConnell to bring the For the People Act to a vote. The American people need a government that works for them -- not against them -- if we’re going to make real change. >>
Thank you for taking action today. I really appreciate your support.
