Veterans Day

Please take a moment to post about a veteran on the KSGOP Facebook page with a picture or a comment on the Veterans Day post.

The post may be about you, a family member, or a friend who served in the military of the United States of America.

We all want to celebrate with you!

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

“Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they’ve suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.”

- President Ronald Reagan, 1983, in a radio address to the nation.

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”

- President John F. Kennedy in his 1963 Thanksgiving proclamation, issued just prior to his death.

Assessments Show Huge Defecit

by

Linda Highland

Resolutions Committee Chairman

Kansas public school students are still struggling with assessments. A September 2, 2020 Ed Week article stated, "For the K-12 Achievement Index, Kansas finishes 44th with a grade of D." Since then the scores have risen only slightly in some districts. Attached are the assessments as reported by KSDE for all students in Kansas. KSDE moved to a four level reporting system in 2015 and this is how they define the four Levels:

A student at Level 1 shows a limited ability to understand and use the skills and knowledge needed for postsecondary readiness.

A student at Level 2 shows a basic ability to understand and use the skills and knowledge needed for postsecondary readiness.

A student at Level 3 shows an effective ability to understand and use the skills and knowledge needed for postsecondary readiness.

A student at Level 4 shows an excellent ability to understand and use the skills and knowledge needed for postsecondary readiness.

10.01% of all Kansas students in 2023 are proficient at Level 4 in Math.

8.18% of all Kansas students in 2023 are proficient at Level 4 in ELA.

11.8% of all Kansas students in 2023 are proficient at Level 4 in Science.

President Donald J. Trump

Recognizes KSGOP

for “Fantastic Job” and Chairman Mike Brown

as “Warrior”

I was honored to be invited to the Florida Republican Party “Freedom Summit” last Saturday, November 4, 2023, in Orlando, FL.

Kristi and I went to the event where most of the Presidential candidates appeared for speeches. We talked with many of them or their staff, along with outside groups interested in Republican Party Politics. In our conversations, we made many new friends from all over the USA.

Kristi and I were fortunate and are grateful to be included by the Florida Republican Party Chairman, Christian Ziegler, and we watched many of the speeches from very close to the stage.

All speakers gave passionate speeches, including folks from Moms for Liberty and Public Square.

Toward the end of the program, around 6:30 pm, President Trump came on stage. The crowd went wild, and the cheering and clapping was thunderous. The room was electric. He stopped about 15 feet onto the stage beyond the heavy curtains and stood still right there for a minute or longer, just soaking it all up. He was, in my mind, reminding himself that he is still loved and admired by many, and the crowd got a good long look at a man, a tough New Yorker, who has proven he can take whatever the lunatics on the Left can deal out.

He walked to the podium and thanked everyone in attendance and went on to thank the hosts and then the Florida electeds who have stepped forward to support him.

He called them “warriors,” then, unexpectedly, he said, “We need warriors - we can't have not-warriors - as well as Kansas GOP Chairman, who's done a fantastic job, Mike Brown is here. Mike Brown, thank you. (I stood up and waved, giving him a thumbs up) Thank you very much, Mike. Great job. (pointing at me) How are we doing in Kansas? Pretty good? I hear good. (I gave him two thumbs up - and he laughed) I think we are doing good there!” then he paused, and the speech continued.

It was an honor to be mentioned, a testament to the hard work we are doing, and the immense amount of progress we've made in completely rebuilding the KSGOP.

It's been hard.

It's been maddening.

It's been challenging.

It's been joyous.

It's been satisfying.

Sometimes, all of those are in the same moment.

And yes, it's been worth all of it when there’s recognition that comes our way, when fundraising is going our way, and sometimes when it's just quiet for a few minutes. And please and thank you still go a long way!

Conservatively Speaking

by

KSGOP Chairman

Mike Brown

Bold Conservative Republican Leadership Wins… Again.

This past Tuesday, November 7, local elections for school boards and city councils were conducted across the state of Kansas.

Let me begin by saying THANK YOU to the many candidates across Kansas who bravely put their names on the ballot and who have campaigned so hard this year! Regardless of winning or not, the entire KSGOP, including me, is so very proud of your efforts and bravery. Running for office is an exhausting process and so many Kansans were willing to make this commitment and take the chance.

I also want to thank the many county Republican party groups across Kansas for their efforts in getting our candidates front and center.

In some instances, Republicans struggled and in others, Republicans were hugely successful. That is the nature of elections.

It was a mixed bag of results. But one common problematic theme seems to be there were those who took the “non-partisan” tact and remained non-Republican. This cycle also confirmed that “slates” of like-minded candidates is not a generally winning strategy and should be avoided.

Trying to hide one's political affiliation from the electorate is both counterintuitive and stymies Republican voters. The electorate WANTS to know if a candidate is a Republican. They expect any candidate running for school board wants to improve school. What they want to know is the candidates other values. And hiding that from them cost us wins.

As an example, on Monday evening I heard from one couple who said they’d spent hours researching one set of school board candidates on a slate and never did quite figure it out. I set them straight, but there clearly were many others in the same position who simply chose not to vote. Knowing who the Republicans are in any election cannot be this difficult in the future.

One clear takeaway from Tuesday’s results is that Republican messaging in our suburban and urban communities is not resonating. I have been saying this for over a year, and now it is crystal clear our message has to be honed and targeted. I’ve already had this conversation with RNC staff and I’ve asked for focus groups to be immediately conducted to create messaging that is both consistent and targeted to specific audiences across the state of Kansas and America.

We have much work to do as our 2024 elections are less than a year away and the presidential primary is just 4 months away.

Your state and county Republican parties are already analyzing results and working hard on rebuilding and tuning the machine to capitalize on targeted messaging and winning.

Another clear takeaway, and leaning into winning, is that it is time for all Kansas Republicans to call out any other Republican being divisive, intentionally trying to damage the KSGOP and deliberately trying to drive the party apart. We MUST all be pulling in the same direction or these people own a part of the losses this year and will own the impending losses.

The old guard and their shenanigans are juvenile, destructive, and desperate. They are intentionally trying to foment KSGOP's failure - because they simply accomplished nothing when they had control. If a former Chairman would have put 1/10 as much effort into actually doing his job back then, he would be a raging success today.

But sadly, he did not focus or succeed, and as such he is a bitter, childish failure. Our party has suffered from that failed leadership. And his behavior, and that of a few others, is exactly the same as Democrats. They are no different than rats in jar, meaning when someone else is successful they spend all of their efforts trying to tear them down to their miserable self-loathing level vs. following a successful leader and being successful as a group.

DO NOT LET THESE MISERABLE SOULS RUIN YOUR KANSAS REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Next year, in 2024, is a time for Bold Conservative Republican Leadership across Kansas.

Republicans have the winning ideals and traditional American values. We will do a better job of messaging and communicating next year. And we will have charted a course for success and greater winning. These adjustments are already underway.

Kansas Republicans don’t give up and we don’t give in. We either win or we learn. We re-tool and we reload. And that is exactly what we will do.

Head up.

Eyes on the prize.

Shoulders back.

Chest out.

Carry-on.

Facts and Figures

Bidenomics Is Failing Americans

Biden and Democrats are lying about the economy – Friday's jobs report is the second worst jobs report of Biden’s entire presidency.

What you need to know:

With the economy adding just 150,000 jobs in October – coming in below economists’ expectations – this is the second worst jobs report of Biden’s presidency.

The unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent in October while the labor force participation rate declined – remaining below pre-pandemic levels.

Biden’s economic agenda is decimating Americans’ finances – the average middle-class household has lost over $33,000 in real wealth in just the past year.

U.S. average gas prices currently sit at $3.44 per gallon which is more than $1 higher than when Biden became president.

The Fed has hiked interest rates 11 times since March 2022 – now at their highest level in 22 years – making it harder for families to buy a home, finance a car, pay off debt, and perform various other financial transactions.

The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage is now at its highest level since 2000.

Homeownership has been deemed “unaffordable” in 99 percent of the country.

Biden’s favorite economist – Moody’s Mark Zandi – said that purchasing a home or a car right now is “completely unaffordable for the typical American household.”

Despite Biden’s attempts to downplay his failures, American are not fooled; they know Biden is to blame.

73 percent of Americans believe the economy is in bad shape and more voters trust Republicans over Democrats to handle inflation according to a recent AP-NORC poll.

58 percent of Americans believe the economy is getting worse and 69 percent believe the country is on the wrong track according to an Economist/YouGov poll.

Half of Americans say their financial situation is worsening according to a recent Harvard CAPS-Harris poll.

Biden’s approval rating on the economy is at just 32 percent – the lowest of his presidency – according to CNBC’s All-America Economic Survey.

The bottom line:

Families are struggling to keep up with lower real wages and higher prices on everything from gas to groceries, yet Biden refuses to accept any accountability for his failures. Bidenomics isn’t the ‘American Dream,’ it’s our American nightmare.

Biden's Failed Foreign Policy

The Republican Party will always stand with Israel, our nation’s strongest ally in the Middle East. Our hearts and prayers continue to be with the Israeli people and the men, women, and children who are being held hostage by Hamas terrorists.

What you need to know:

Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts and prayers remain with our friends in Israel, one of America’s strongest allies.

Everyone should unequivocally condemn these horrific acts of terrorism.

The Republican Party stands with Israel and the Israeli people’s right to defend themselves against these unprovoked attacks.

Republican Speaker Mike Johnson spearheaded a bill to send immediate aid to Israel, which passed the House this week.

Sadly, 9 Democrats refused to condemn Hamas and back Israel when they voted “no” on a recent resolution.

Democrats who voted no include: Tlaib, Bush, Bowman, Carson, Green, Lee, Ocasio- Cortez, Omar, Ramirez.

Biden flew around the globe only to be “snubbed” by several Middle Eastern leaders, who canceled scheduled meetings with Biden amid a massive disinformation campaign perpetuated by Hamas terrorists and fueled by Democrats and the media.

Biden admitted Iran “is supporting Hamas,” calling into question the $6 billion gift he unlocked for Iran on the anniversary of 9/11 and his pattern of appeasement toward the Iranian regime.

The $6 billion to Iran – the largest state sponsor of terror - must immediately be revoked.

Biden officials doxed U.S. special forces by posting a photo on social media and failing to obscure the identities of special operators in Israel.

Biden failed to condemn disgusting antisemitism displayed by members of his own party.

Now Biden is calling for a “pause” when we must continue to stand by our ally, Israel.

After 3 years of weak leadership from Joe Biden, America and our allies around the world are less safe.

In the Middle East - Biden’s policies of appeasement have enriched the rogue Iranian regime to the tune of tens of billions of dollars.

Biden has failed to vigorously enforce congressionally enacted sanctions while opening up new lines of cash for Iran to fund terror. Now, Israel is under attack from Iran-backed terrorist proxies.

In Europe - Biden lifted sanctions on Putin’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, a move that he was warned was a “calamitous foreign policy disaster.”

Not only that, he undermined American energy production, weakening our influence and empowering malign producers of energy like Russia.

In Afghanistan – The chaotic troop withdrawal left Americans dead, the Afghan government to collapse, and stranded tens of thousands of Afghan allies.

In Asia – Biden continues to ignore a growing number of aggressive provocations from the Chinese Communist Party.

He gave the CCP a pass on their COVID obstruction, let their spy balloon gather intelligence from sensitive military sites, promoted the use of the CCP spyware app TikTok, and is standing idly by as China reportedly sets up a spy base in Cuba.

In North America – Cartels are exploiting Biden’s open borders agenda to poison tens of thousands of Americans with deadly fentanyl, while experts warn of the ever-growing terror threat as 1.6 million “gotaways” have escaped into the country on Biden’s watch.

The bottom line:

Americans and our allies around the world are looking for strong leadership from our Commander-in-Chief. Sadly, Joe Biden’s record of weak leadership and appeasement has emboldened our enemies and left our country more vulnerable to attack.

House Republicans Delivering For Americans Under Speaker Johnson

What you need to know:

Speaker Mike Johnson had delivered major wins for the American people on the House floor in his first 10 days as speaker.

Three appropriations bills have been passed.

He has delivered on Republicans' promise to support Israel and hold Hamas and Iran accountable.

Speaker Johnson has unified the Republican Conference and pushed Congress to work for the American people and display strength across the globe.

The vast majority of the legislation passed in Speaker Johnson's first 10 days has done so with bipartisan support.

The bottom line:

Joe Biden is a weak leader who lies to the American people. Luckily, Americans have strong leaders in the House, Senate, and at the state level to turn to. Republicans will continue to put us first and deliver for the American people.

Not only that, he undermined American energy production, weakening our influence and empowering malign producers of energy like Russia.

In Afghanistan – The chaotic troop withdrawal left Americans dead, the Afghan government collapsed and stranded tens of thousands of Afghan allies.

In North America – Cartels are exploiting Biden’s open borders agenda to poison tens of thousands of Americans with deadly fentanyl. At the same time, experts warn of the ever-growing terror threat as 1.6 million “got aways” have escaped into the country on Biden’s watch.

The bottom line:

Americans and our allies worldwide are looking for strong leadership from our Commander-in-Chief. Sadly, Joe Biden’s record of weak leadership and appeasement has emboldened our enemies and left our country more vulnerable to attack.

Biden's Border Problem

Joe Biden's border crisis undermines our national security.

What you need to know:

New data shows 269,735 illegal immigrants were encountered attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in September – a 15 percent increase in crossings from the previous month and the highest total for September in DHS history.

For 31 straight months, monthly encounters have been higher than even the highest month seen under the previous administration.

FY 2023 has seen nearly 2.5 million encounters, surpassing last year’s record.

The Biden administration has now set the all-time record for migrant encounters at the southern border for the last three years in a row.

With roughly 8,900 daily encounters, this dwarfs the definition of a "crisis" set by Obama's DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson in 2019 when he said that "more than 1,000" encounters a day "overwhelm the system."

September’s 269,000-plus encounters is a 462 percent increase from the average August apprehensions from 2017-2020.

13,771 unaccompanied children were encountered.

A record 123,815 migrants who crossed as part of a family were encountered.

147,042 illegal immigrants were encountered from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing Biden's crisis is global.

At least 169 people on the terror watchlist have been encountered trying to cross the southern border this fiscal year – breaking the record of 98 set last year.

More people on the FBI terror watchlist have been arrested at the southern border this fiscal year than the previous six years combined.

Nearly 7.9 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

This includes the nearly 6.3 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered and the more than 1.6 million got aways that have escaped past Border Patrol into the U.S.

Border officials say that the official number of gotaways vastly undercounts the illegal immigrants who make it into the U.S. without being apprehended.

The bottom line:

Biden's failure to address the situation at the border or even recognize it as a crisis is a complete dereliction of duty.

Presidential Debate Update

The RNC presidential debate in Miami showcased a fierce showdown among Republican candidates, with Donald Trump notably absent from the stage.

Each candidate aggressively vied for attention, seeking their moment in the spotlight including Ramaswamy’s invitation to be joined on stage by the RNC Chair and a blistering indictment of the MSM moderators from

NBC including calling out Kristin Welker for her involvement in peddling the “Hillary Clinton Russia Hoax” among other lies.

Simultaneously, down the road, Trump held a rally that captivated viewers, dominating the ratings. The dynamic event reflected the party's internal competition for leadership, while Trump's parallel rally underscored his enduring influence and ability to command attention even outside formal debate settings.

The clash of political events highlighted the diverse strategies employed by GOP contenders as they navigate the electoral landscape.

The Presidential Preference Primary election in Kansas is on March 19, 2024.

The next debate is scheduled for Tuscaloosa, AL on December 6, 2023.
