I just introduced the Healthy Meals Help Kids Learn Act — because our children should never go hungry, especially in one of the richest countries in the world.

Folks — New Mexico recently joined several other states in establishing a universal school meals program. I’m proud to represent a state that is fighting to make sure every child is fed.

We need to build on this progress by giving kids across the country access to nutritious, consistent meals.

We know from research that children who take part in school meal programs eat more whole grains, milk, fruits, and vegetables. Giving kids healthy access to school meals is also associated with greater academic success.

The Healthy Meals Help Kids Learn Act will help every kid have a healthier diet by increasing the federal school meal reimbursement rate permanently.
