Great news! We’re excited to announce a victory in one of our recent legal matters.
Yesterday, a Virginia mom, Ms. Angela Kilgore, was allowed to pray at her local school board meeting. She went up to the podium during her time for public comments and prayed for the school system and its students.
You may recall that back in August, the Chairman of the Suffolk City School Board said Angela wasn’t allowed to pray. He also suggested it would be “unconstitutional” to allow praying during the public comment period because someone might be offended.

First Liberty and our friends at the Founding Freedoms Law Center in Virginia sent a letter to the school board. We explained why a decision to prohibit religious expression, including prayer, is unconstitutional.
We want to thank the team at the Founding Freedom Law Center for leading the way on this case. Our attorneys supported them and provided our legal expertise. Thanks to this collaborative effort and teamwork, a favorable solution with the school board was reached.
This is a very impactful win. Countless parents and everday Americans are being censored from living out their faith. Many are being told they can’t pray or bring their religious beliefs into public meetings. So, not only is this a win for Angela, but it’s also a win for people of faith all across the country.
Thank you for supporting First Liberty. These victories are incredibly meaningful to those involved. Because of your ongoing support, we continue to restore faith and religious liberty in communities everywhere in America.
