John,
This was the New York Times’ top story this weekend:
|
I didn’t need to read the story to know exactly what it was about because my 2018 campaign was targeted and the Times detailed it.
This is what we’re up against. Instead of campaigning on ideas and solutions to our nation’s problems, these right-wing groups are using unlimited resources to scare and intimidate campaign volunteers and staff.
Now, the New York Times reports that these groups are relying on former intelligence officers, both American and foreign, to conduct espionage operations against political rivals. John, the consequence of these tactics becoming common-place can forever change the face of our democratic process. We cannot allow our political process to be degraded like this; we cannot accept this as a new normal.
However, the truth is we expect the 2020 attacks to be just as bad, if not worse than 2018. And in light of what we have faced and will face, my team and I will continue to focus on listening to the people I represent, delivering for my constituents, and restoring decency to our politics – even when we can’t expect the same from our opponents.
Thank you for your support of our efforts.
With appreciation,
Abigail
