Hello, Friends —
Unsurprisingly, the FBI is seeking to build a massive new headquarters in the greater Washington, D.C. area, for which President Biden has requested an additional $233 million for fiscal year 2024. On Wednesday, I took to the House floor to share my firm belief that the FBI does not deserve a massive new headquarters and that a new headquarters would only condone, reinforce, and enable the agency’s nefarious behavior.
The activities of the FBI within the Washington, D.C. field office have significantly influenced and hindered much of the House Republicans’ investigative work into the Biden Crime Family. The FBI claims its mission is to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign-intelligence threats and to enforce the criminal laws of the United States. However, the FBI recently has focused its efforts on targeting the civil liberties of Americans because of their politics. It is not the dedicated individuals in field offices across middle America or other parts of the country who are at fault, but rather it is the activities of the D.C.-based FBI bureaucrats that have broken the trust of the American people.

On Wednesday night, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on my amendment to the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill, which would have prohibited funds from being used for the acquisition of property for the corrupt FBI's new headquarters. Although my amendment failed on a vote of 145 to 273, I will continue my fight to defang and defund government agencies that have been weaponized against the American people.
The good news is that the Swamp is on the run. By electing Speaker Mike Johnson, the 118th Congress has entered a new era, and Speaker Johnson is already fulfilling the promises he made to ascend to the speakership. Now we must use the power of the purse to hold these weaponized agencies accountable.

This morning, I premiered an original documentary titled "Gaveled Out: Return of The People's House," which is available to stream on all of my official social media platforms. The documentary highlights the series of events that led to a group of patriotic members of Congress removing former Speaker Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker's chair and electing a constitutional lawyer — Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
REP. GAETZ STANDS UP FOR MISTREATED J6 PRISONERS DURING HOUSE JUDICIARY HEARING

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee held the "Federal Bureau of Prisons Oversight" hearing. During the hearing, I questioned the bureau's director, Colette Peters, on the treatment of January 6th defendants. Sadly, my office has received disturbing allegations of political retaliation by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons against John Strand, Owen Shroyer, and other non-violent January 6th defendants who are currently being held in solitary confinement over their political beliefs.
It deeply troubles me that Americans are being forced to endure a two-tiered justice system. It is incumbent upon the U.S. House of Representatives to do more, and I'm looking forward to taking up Director Peters on her offer for on-site visits to investigate how January 6th defendants are being treated.
REP. GAETZ SLAMS AMERICAN UNIVERSITY DIRECTOR ON GEORGE SOROS & GLOBALISM

On Wednesday, Pamela Nadell, Director of the Jewish Studies Program at American University, claimed before the House Judiciary Committee that criticisms of George Soros and globalism are exclusive codewords for anti-semitism.
During the hearing, I repeatedly asked Dr. Nadell if one can criticize George Soros and globalism without being anti-semitic. Time after time, she attempted to dodge the question. When I criticize globalism, I am often criticizing the United Nations and other international organizations, who often criticize Israel. When I informed Dr. Nadell of this, she could offer no logical response!

REP. GAETZ RENEWS CALL FOR NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR TERRORIST ATTACK AT NAS PENSACOLA
On Tuesday, I sent a letter to President Joe Biden renewing my call for a National Day of Remembrance for the terrorist attack on Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola in 2019.
On December 6, 2019, a Saudi terrorist shot and killed three U.S. Navy sailors and wounded many others at NAS Pensacola in Florida's First Congressional District. The terrorist was participating in a Pentagon-sponsored training program, which granted him access to the base. My letter emphasizes the need for a National Day of Remembrance and requests President Biden order flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide on December 6th to honor the victims and surviving family members of the service members killed in the 2019 terrorist attack on NAS Pensacola.
Nearly four years after the attack, Northwest Florida stands strong. No threat is too great, and no enemy is too evil, to break the spirit of our community and our country. My heart is with the families of all the victims.

REP. GAETZ APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF INTERIOR AMENDMENT PROTECTING CRAB ISLAND

I'm pleased to report that the House of Representatives passed my amendment aimed at protecting small businesses and patrons at Northwest Florida's Crab Island in the Department of Interior appropriations bill.
Federal bureaucrats at the Department of Interior are considering implementing a commercial services strategy that would put our mom-and-pop businesses out of business, limit the enjoyment of Crab Island, and fail to make people safer. Because we had a single-subject spending bill, I was able to go to the floor of the House of Representatives to make the case that our state and local governments are best prepared to manage Crab Island, not the federal government.
I want to thank the great folks at the City of Destin who passed a resolution in support of my legislative efforts to keep local and state control over Crab Island and not to have federal intervention that will limit entrepreneurism and a lot of the fun.
A copy of my Crab Island amendment in the Interior appropriations bill can be found here.
REP. GAETZ MEETS WITH FLORIDA-BASED ADVANCED DEFENSE SYSTEMS MANUFACTURER

On Monday, my staff and I shared the privilege of touring a Florida-based Advanced Tactical Systems company! Some of the military tools and technology used in Israel's fight against Hamas terrorists are being developed right here in Florida. I was honored to visit and familiarize myself with Florida's role in the production of defense materials for protecting democracy.
We're proud of our Floridians who are using their skills and expertise to ensure the necessary component parts and weapons systems make their way to our great ally Israel!
AROUND THE DISTRICT
EGLIN AFB HOSTS CONGRESSIONAL STAFF DELEGATION
On Monday, Congressman Rick Crawford's office led a staff delegation to our District to tour the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) on Eglin Air Force Base (AFB). This was attended by several staff members of my colleagues from around the country, professional staff members of the House Armed Services Committee, and facilitators from the U.S. Army. Attendees spent the day with the 73rd Ordnance Battalion — the Army representation of NAVSCOLEOD. All staff members were able to walk through and experience the various divisions of the EOD training that all EOD service members must undergo. EOD is an all-volunteer service in all four branches of the military comprised of experts who are committed to rendering lethal explosives safe.
This was a great chance to showcase the value Eglin AFB and the EOD bring to our military and national defense. I extend my thanks to Representative Crawford, the EOD Caucus, NAVSCOLEOD, and the U.S. Army for hosting such a productive and beneficial event!

Rep. Gaetz renews request for 'National Day of Remembrance' for NAS Pensacola terrorist attack victims
"For Watson's parents Sheila and Ben, there hasn't been a single day since Dec. 6, 2019 that hasn't been a day of remembrance for their son. 'Something we'll see or something will come up on Facebook that will remind us of him and the pain is ever present,' the Watsons said. 'And we have a day of remembrance and a day of pain just everyday knowing that a young man was taken from us in a horrible terrorist situation.' WEAR News also spoke with Naval Airman Ryan Blackwell. He was one of the eight people wounded in the attack. He says the request by Gaetz gives a sense of hope to everyone who was there and those who are still impacted by the shooting. For Blackwell, this is a good first step, but he says there is still more to be done."

Gaetz Blasts WSJ, Rove & Romney in Stunning Letter On McCarthy Ouster.
"Gaetz's letter, however, takes a victory lap over his naysayers, explaining: 'I understand why Karl Rove ("The Unmaking of the Republican Majority," op-ed, Oct. 19) and the Journal are upset. You used to be important. For many years, the Republican Party was controlled by your brand of politics — amnesty for illegal immigrants, intervention overseas and deference to corporate America. Those days are over,' adds Gaetz: 'The Make America Great Again movement is ascendant. Donald Trump remains the leader of the party and Mitt Romney is a pariah in the GOP.' In closing, he writes: 'Kevin McCarthy is no longer speaker. Instead, Mike Johnson — a committed conservative who will stick to his word — will lead the House. This might upset fans of the status quo, but the stability favored by the establishment resulted in runaway debt and an open border. I will continue disrupting the system to better the lives of my constituents.'"

Republicans Team Up With Dems To Fund New Controversial FBI Headquarters In Blue State
"Gaetz said that he felt the FBI had been politically weaponized and therefore deserved to operate out of a 'rat-infested' building. 'Guess what? Our country is crumbling when a weaponized security state targets the civil liberties of American citizens because of their politics,' Gaetz said on X Thursday. 'Those in the J. Edgar Hoover Building should sit in that rat-infested building until they get their act straight.'"

House passes amendment to maintain local control over Destin's Crab Island
"Congressman Matt Gaetz, who introduced the amendment, praised the move on Monday, saying this will keep businesses up and running and keep boaters and swimmers safe. 'A plan that the Department of Interior is seeking to execute would push many of the vendors to the most dangerous waters on the outskirts of Crab Island,' Rep. Gaetz said. 'Where the currents are very torrid and where drownings are most frequent. So we want to be able to keep the vendors in the safest possible place so that we don't suffer a loss of life and the real negative impact to our community that drownings would cause.'"

Matt Gaetz, MTG to visit J6 prison housing Owen Shroyer, John Strand, after 'disturbing allegations of political retaliation'
"Gaetz soon after asked if Peters had heard of Owen Shroyer, only for her to say she had not. 'Very similar fact pattern,' explained Gaetz. 'You know, somebody who had sort of spoken out, was prominent in the public is convicted as a consequence of activities on Jan. 6, now feels as though there's specific Bureau of Prison retaliation. I don't think any group of people should be retaliated against. So I look forward to taking you up on the offer to perhaps go in and do some site visits and see how people are being treated and get that information. directly. So I hope I get prompt cooperation.'"
