NRDC Supporter,
Really bad news: A federal judge just ruled that ConocoPhillips can proceed with its climate-destroying Willow oil drilling project in the Arctic in response to a lawsuit brought by NRDC and other environmental groups.
The Willow Project will accelerate climate change and keep us dependent on dirty, polluting fossil fuels. We’re filing a legal appeal immediately, and we need your help.
Make an emergency donation now to help us continue our campaign against ConocoPhillips’ illegally approved Willow Project and protect our environment on all fronts.
We’re appealing this decision because the law is on our side – and because there is too much on the line to back down.
The Willow Project was illegally approved in March after the Department of Interior failed to fully evaluate and protect against its impacts on our climate and on threatened Arctic wildlife species.
This massive expansion of drilling could unleash as much carbon pollution as putting another 2 million gas-burning cars on the road for 30 years – during a climate crisis!
Pollution will be released in one of the Arctic’s most sensitive ecosystems. A place where expansive plains, clear rivers, and pristine wetlands teem with wildlife like polar bears, caribou, and migratory birds.
But it doesn’t end there: ConocoPhillips has indicated that they plan to consider even more drilling across the Arctic.
We can’t let this ruling stand. Will you help fund NRDC’s fight in and out of the courtroom against ConocoPhillips’ reckless expansion of drilling in the Arctic and help protect our environment on all fronts?
The fossil fuel industry is bulldozing its way toward climate disaster in the Arctic – and must be stopped.
We urgently need your help to continue our fight to stop the Willow oil drilling project and many more devastating drilling projects it would spur in the fragile Arctic region.
Thank you for your support at this critical time.
Sincerely,
Bobby McEnaney
