Dear Members and Associates,
As Bernie's fight for the nomination and the presidency continues, we need to figure out how to best organize the amazing people supporting him. That's you! Win or lose, we need to fight for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and a totally revamped criminal justice system that focuses on keeping people out of jails, not in them. We need to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible. That's what we are good at.
I am asking you to join the Democratic Socialists of America as a friendly home for this organizing. We have the democratic, member-based structure, and we have the right values. But we need a lot more people to become a stronger force. Here is the link.
Membership is dues based, typically five dollars a month, but no one is turned away for lack of funds (just let me know). There are annual memberships for low income and students, but if you can, the monthly membership is best for chapters because twenty percent is returned to us.
As a member you support our local efforts in the Twin Ports area, you can vote in our meetings for candidate endorsements, and you can make motions yourself. We are highly democratic. Our steering committee has very limited powers. All important decisions are made by members at the meetings.
Member dues have paid for our local delegate to fly to the last DSA convention, they have provided online and in person training, and they pay for tech tools like the VAN so we can run our own local campaigns, both candidates and issues.
If you are thinking about DSA, now is a great time to join. If you are one of our lapsed members, now is a great time to renew. Here is the link to join.
In Solidarity,
John Krumm
Twin Ports DSA
