Including women in peacebuilding can greatly reduce violent conflict and increase the likelihood of long-term conflict resolution — but gender discrimination prevents many women from participating.

We’re nearly halfway to our 5,000-signature goal, will you join the people who have already signed our petition calling on Congress to advance gender equality in peacebuilding efforts?

Subject: Take action for women and girls in conflict zones

Did you know that research shows when women are included in peacebuilding efforts the results are more successful and longer lasting?

Yet, women comprised only 13% of negotiators in major peace processes between 1992-2019 — and only 6% of signatories. The extreme level of gender inequality is unacceptable.

That’s why I am reaching out to you today to take action to ensure women are included in all peacebuilding policies and processes.

Will you be one of 5,000 people to sign our petition calling on U.S. Congress to support the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and build a safer world for us all?

A woman speaks during a dialogue session in a rural region of Uganda marked by ethnic tension and conflict over natural resources that drive cattle raids and violence.
When women are left out of peacebuilding processes, they are often at greater risk of gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and forced or early marriage.

When women are included in peacebuilding processes, they bring distinct perspectives and solutions to the table. They provide greater access to their communities, and their influence can encourage peaceful reconciliation.

Your action today can help a more peaceful tomorrow take root.

Please take action today urging Congress to support increasing the number of women in conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution efforts by signing our petition now ▸

Sincerely,
