Dear John, First, Thank You for your support. I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the vote of confidence you have shown in me and I am truly honored to represent you once again in Richmond.
Just as importantly, however, I also want to thank you for everything you did to help bolster the blue brick wall outside of Arlington. Many of you wrote postcards, canvassed and made donations. I am proud to say that with your help and the help of state and national partners, I donated $525,000 either directly to candidates or to support the Senate Campaign Committee.
Now, both the House of Delegates and Senate are in Democratic control. Each chamber has a one vote margin but that margin gives the Democrats the authority to set the rules, appoint committee chairs and defend the progress we have made in so many important areas. This is a sweet victory!! |
Governor Youngkin had said many times that he would “gladly sign any abortion ban bill that landed on his desk.” Well, the voters of Virginia denied him that opportunity. The message in the Virginia elections was the same as the message in the Ohio and Kentucky elections, women want to make their own healthcare decisions without the interference of government. It was gratifying to see voters casting ballots to protect this right to privacy.
Voters also fought back on Governor’s Youngkin’s efforts to ban certain books and intimidate teachers into whitewashing our history. School board races across the Commonwealth resulted in winners who were committed to the responsibility of ensuring that our public schools provide a first class education. Many candidates that embraced the Governor’s platform were defeated. Some of you assisted me in financially supporting progressive school board candidates that were screened by Anne Holton’s group: We the People for Education. This important effort will make a difference for years to come.
