We're launching a network-wide book club where we'll read and discuss Anand Giridharadas' acclaimed book, "The Persuaders."

“To be arguing on your opponent's conversational turf, on their terms, through their frames, is to concede before you open your mouth.”

-Anand Giridharadas

Indivisibles,

When we last updated you on our Powering Progress campaign, we shared the top lesson from our summer of local action: effective communication is the most impactful way to get the word out about the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). In order to educate our communities on all the benefits of the IRA and having an active government working for the good of all, we must connect directly with various community members, meet them where they are, and guide them towards our progressive values with ease and empathy.

So, with this lesson in mind, we took time to plan the next phase of our work with the goal of strengthening Indivisibles' communication skills on a broad spectrum of topics.

We hope you’ll join us as we become stronger, more confident messengers with "persuadable" individuals who align with Indivisible's values but are vulnerable to right-wing narratives, including racialized dog-whistle rhetoric that can sway them away from progressive ideals.

That’s why we are excited to launch a virtual book club open to all Indivisibles -- and we’re kicking off by reading and discussing Anand Giridharadas' acclaimed book, "The Persuaders." Click here to fill out our signup form now, and we’ll send you a free copy of the book to start reading.

Powering Progress Book Club

"The Persuaders" immerses readers in the world of dedicated activists and organizers spanning the nation, all driven by the common goal of expanding the progressive movement without compromising our principles or drifting toward the center. Anand Giridharadas delves deep into the art of addressing threats and injustices while extending a hand to those who may not yet share our views, but potentially could in the future. The book offers invaluable insights on healing and uniting our fractured nation.

At its core, the book advocates for creating accessible pathways for folks on the fence to engage with progressive issues. It emphasizes the power of pursuing shared objectives rather than fixating on our differences. This approach not only strengthens our movement but also opens up opportunities for massive mobilization and significant victories nationwide. Our goal is to focus on further enhancing and applying our persuasion and communication skills, so that we can bring more people into our shared vision for the future.

So, relax, kick your feet up, and join us on this inspiring journey as we read "The Persuaders." Fill out our registration form now and we’ll send you a copy of the book so you can get started.

After you order a book, you can register an event to host fun and interactive book clubs to discuss it! We will share the link to host your own event soon, and we’ll share some resources soon to help you lead effective book discussions on how to implement the knowledge that author Anand Giridharadas shares. We recommend registering your book clubs for December -- and then we’ll hold an event at the beginning of next year with a special speaker -- stay tuned! The first 15 groups to register a book club event for this year will get 10 customized Powering Progress book club shirts to wear for your event!

So, embark on this reading adventure with enthusiasm and an open heart. We look forward to reuniting in the new year with fresh perspectives and fortified communication skills, ready to make a meaningful impact on our path in the year ahead.
