Dear Neighbors,
This weekend, we take an opportunity to pause and remember our veterans’ dedication and service to our country. In Congress, I consistently have supported policies to ensure our veterans have the resources they need.
Last year, House Democrats passed the PACT Act to deliver health care coverage to veterans suffering from burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic exposures. You can click here to learn about how new PACT Act benefits can help service members in your life. We have a responsibility to help those who served in uniform and stood ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
New Federal Program to Accelerate Replacement of Lead Service Lines
I joined the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this week to announce which New Jersey communities will participate in a major new initiative to accelerate progress toward lead service line removal and replacement. The communities in the state selected for the program include Blackwood, Clementon, East Newark, Harrison, Keansburg, Keyport, New Brunswick, Ventnor, Camden, and Trenton. Every American has a fundamental right to safe, clean drinking water. That’s why I fought for funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to replace lead service lines quickly and equitably. No community should be left to face the health risks stemming from lead pipes any longer. Read more here
New Funding to Hire Law Enforcement Officers in Middlesex County
I announced new federal funding to support public safety and strengthen law enforcement in Middlesex County. New Brunswick will receive $987,102 to hire 8 law enforcement officers, and Carteret will receive $625,000 to hire 5 law enforcement officers. The funding is provided through the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) COPS Hiring Program that supports the hiring and retention of law enforcement.
Additionally, the New Jersey Department of Public Safety will receive $3,787,301 through the COPS Anti-Heroin Task Force (AHTF) Program, which is a competitive award program designed to advance public safety by providing funds directly to state law enforcement agencies in states to locate or investigate illicit activities relating to the distribution of heroin, fentanyl, or carfentanil, or to the unlawful distribution of prescription opioids. New Brunswick Facility to Receive $180 Million to Improve the Efficiency and Reliability of Passenger Train Service
I secured $180 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the Delco Lead project in New Brunswick, which will improve efficiency and reliability of passenger train service throughout New Jersey. New Jersey Transit’s Delco Lead is an obsolete and undersized rail yard facility used to store trains and is strategically situated along the Northeast Corridor. The funding will be used to create a new service and inspection facility, crew quarters, equipment storage space, and the 3.5-mile Delco Lead track, which provides capacity to store approximately 300 rail cars.
