I'm Rachel, and my Make-A-Wish® journey started with a little bit of luck mixed with happenstance.
When I was starting law school, I was looking for something joyful and purpose-filled to counterbalance the rigors of school, and I stumbled upon a volunteer information session for my local Make-A-Wish chapter.
I knew someone who had recently lost a years-long battle with pediatric cancer, and I was inspired to learn more about the wish process and how I could get involved. That was 12 years ago. Since then, I have helped grant more than 80 wishes. Turns out, that info session changed the entire trajectory of my life.
And today, I am so proud to be able to serve the organization as a full-time employee – and to remain an active wish-granting volunteer!
I like to say that I see the entire world through wish-colored glasses. I want everyone in my world – and in the world around me – to understand that for a child and family facing a critical illness, a wish is not just something nice. It’s something necessary.
That’s because these wishes give kids the hope and strength they need to persevere through the tough treatments they’re facing. Even doctors and medical providers overwhelmingly agree that wishes are a crucial part of a child’s medical journey.
So today, I’m asking for your help to provide more kids with life-changing wishes. Because for every wish we are able to grant, there are two other kids waiting for theirs to come true too – and we rely on the support of people like you to continue this work. Please, will you make a donation now to change more kids’ lives through the impact of a wish? |
