The Willow Project is a climate disaster in the making. We plan to appeal this ruling and ask the court to vacate the project's approval.

If completed, this massive Arctic drilling project will release 260 million metric tons of greenhouse gases. Our climate cannot sustain massive new oil drilling projects like this one.

In approving this project, the Biden administration ignored millions of public comments against it — including over 115,000 comments submitted by Earthjustice supporters.

Despite this ruling, we are confident in our claims and believe we will prevail in our appeal.

ConocoPhillips’ Willow Project proposes hundreds of miles of pipelines, dozens of miles of roads, an airstrip, and a gravel mine — all on public lands. In addition to worsening the climate crisis, it would devastate imperiled wildlife like polar bears, migratory birds, and caribou. It would also jeopardize the health and traditional practices of nearby Alaska Native people.

The oil industry also sees Willow as key to building out a new hub of fossil fuel development in the region, something our climate cannot afford.

In 2021, we sued to halt this project and won. The Trump-era permits for the project did not consider the Willow Project’s global climate impact, and our lawsuit forced the Biden administration to review them again before proceeding.

We will keep up the fight against ConocoPhillips’ Willow project — for our climate and our future.
