Friend,

Since before the founding of our nation, women -- especially women of color -- have been the core leaders behind every great fight against injustice. From ensuring every person has the right to vote to advocating for safer streets and curtailing gun violence, women are the backbone of our democracy.

The state of our city is stronger and more competitive than it’s been in decades. 2020 is our chance to continue realizing our potential and work together to empower others -- especially women.

This International Women's Day, please join me in lifting up the women who are working tirelessly to make our communities stronger. Add your name next to mine today.

I am proud to support initiatives that level the playing field for Richmond's women so that every person has an equal opportunity to succeed and thrive. Just last week in my latest budget proposal, I announced a partnership with the Richmond City Health District to provide $150,000 for the creation of a DOULA fund to expand access and care for women, particularly women of color.

I am continually humbled and inspired by the countless women in our community who fearlessly say, "I'm here. I have a voice. And I'm going to use it."

Richmond is only as strong as the women who help build it. We need to continue to fight for a city that works for everyone. Join me in supporting and celebrating women. Add your name this International Women's Day.

Thank you,

Levar
