Israel Agrees to Pauses

Israel has agreed to daily, four-hour pauses in operations inside Gaza to allow more civilians to leave the northern part of the enclave and facilitate an increase in humanitarian aid entering from Egypt, as The Washington Post reports.

Discussing Hostage Deal

The C.I.A. director and the chief of Israel’s spy agency met with Qatari officials in Doha on Thursday for discussions on a deal to release some hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a short pause in Israeli attacks on Gaza, as the NYT reports.

Cautious Approach to Raising Rates

Fed Chair Jerome Powell said it was premature for the central bank to declare a conclusive end to its historic interest-rate increases of the past two years even though he didn’t make an argument for raising rates further right now, as the WSJ reports.

In Davis Guggenheim’s 2008 documentary, “It Might Get Loud,” there’s a memorable scene in which Jimmy Page describes the first time that he heard “The Rumble” by rock pioneer Link Wray. In the film, Page digs into his vast collection to pull out a 45 record copy of “The Rumble,” and explains that the song’s “profound attitude” instantly hooked him. Naturally, when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the late Wray this year, it was Page that honored him with this magnificent performance.
