Justice Democrats

In case you missed it, the U.S. House formally passed a resolution to censure Rashida Tlaib in a disgusting attempt to silence herand almost two dozen Democrats supported it.

AIPAC and moderate Democrats would love to see Rashida, a progressive champion and the only Palestinian American member of Congress, ousted next November.

Will you fuel her re-election fight by splitting a grassroots donation between Justice Democrats and Rashida’s campaign now?

John,

Late last night, a majority of Republicans and 22 so-called Democrats voted to formally censure Rashida Tlaib for her courageous commitment to human rights.

By punishing Rashida, the House took its anti-Palestinian bigotry out on the only Palestinian American in Congress as members of both parties came together to disgustingly celebrate their shared prejudice and dehumanization of Palestinian people.

We at Justice Democrats stand with Rashida, now and always. Will you help us fight back against these ugly attacks from both sides of the aisle and re-elect her next November by splitting a grassroots donation today?

Before the House voted, fellow Squad members and Justice Democrats-endorsed representatives like Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, and Ayanna Pressley stood up for Rashida with moving remarks. She then gave a powerful speech in defense of her calls for a ceasefire and release of hostages:

“I am the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, and my perspective is needed here now more than ever. I will not be silenced and I will not let anyone distort my words.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but Palestinian people are not disposable. We are human beings just like anyone else. The cries of the Palestinian and Israeli children sound no different to me.”

Instead of working together to save lives as the Palestinian casualty count surpasses 10,000 people (including more than 4,000 children) in just one month, these 22 Democrats shamefully chose to focus on silencing their colleague:

Steve Cohen, Jim Costa, Angie Craig, Don Davis, Lois Frankel, Jared Golden, Dan Goldman, Josh Gottheimer, Greg Landsman, Susie Lee, Kathy Manning, Jared Moskowitz, Wiley Nickel, Chris Pappas, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Pat Ryan, Brad Schneider, Kim Schrier, Darren Soto, Ritchie Torres, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Frederica Wilson.

Make no mistake: this fight to punish Rashida is based on blatant lies and racist, Islamophobic talking points. It’s telling that they chose to censure Rashida’s call for peace and freedom in Palestine, but not:

While Republicans and moderate Democrats try to paint Rashida as a fringe extremist, the majority of people in the United States and 71% of Michigan Democrats stand with her on the right side of history in support of a ceasefire.

As the ONLY Palestinian American in Congress, we need Rashida’s perspective, representation, and courage now more than ever, and Justice Democrats will do everything in our power to re-elect her one year from now.

But we can’t do it without you. I know we’ve asked for a lot lately, but please consider donating $3 or whatever you can afford to Justice Democrats and Rashida’s campaign to defend her seat in Congress next year.

We will not sit idly by while bigots in both parties attempt to silence Rashida for using her freedom of speech to stand up for the human rights of ALL.

In solidarity,

Alexandra Rojas
Executive Director
