This week, former U.S. Representative Peter Meijer launched his race for U.S. Senate here in Michigan. When Peter Meijer first announced his campaign, we told you to watch as he tries to convince Trump voters to support him after he so publicly voted to impeach him in 2021.

And since he launched his campaign this week, he has twisted himself into knots to make it work.

Peter Meijer was one of just 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach Trump in 2021, and at the time he claimed it was to hold Trump accountable for his response to the January 6th insurrection. But now, he doesn’t seem to think that attack on our democracy is disqualifying to someone seeking to hold the office of President.

On day one, Meijer flipped and minimized the January 6th insurrection – saying it was just “one day”. And last week, right before announcing, he filed a court brief defending Trump’s ability to be on the ballot in Michigan next year, despite his involvement in January 6th.
He went on to say he would vote for Donald Trump in 2024 and said “I have probably spent more time defending Donald Trump than saying critical things of him.”

We all understand what he’s attempting to do: Meijer is trying to rehabilitate his image with base Republican voters to have a chance at winning the primary – contradicting his past claims and actions as a leader who would stand up to Trump. Unlike some Republicans who broke with Trump and stuck to their principles, even when they lost their jobs, Meijer has decided to flip and recant, rather than stick to a principled approach to Trump.

Meijer's entry into the race is a big inflection moment for our campaign, which is why we're asking people like you to help send Elissa Slotkin to the U.S. Senate. Peter Meijer has given his past campaigns over $1.6 million, and we know he has the ability to self-fund even more in this Senate race.
