Dear John,

After three weeks of infighting within the GOP over who would lead as Speaker of the House, we’re once again facing a government shutdown. 

We have just nine days to find a consensus – otherwise necessary programs like food stamps and veterans’ services will come to a screeching halt and millions of Americans will be negatively impacted. 

Meanwhile, the new far-right speaker has yet to announce any plans for passing even a continuing resolution to keep the government open. 

Extreme forces in the House are threatening to risk a shutdown in order to get what they want, and this shows just how little they care about the well-being of the people who voted them into office.
