America’s trucking industry makes the country run, but it has a deadly secret that Big Trucking is trying desperately to hide. The diesel pollution from the nation’s more than four MILLION heavy-duty trucks is so dangerous to human health that it’s responsible for more than 70% of all cancer risk from air pollution.
Areas with heavy truck traffic have been labeled “Diesel Death Zones,” and you won’t be surprised to learn these are primarily in impoverished communities of color. To make matters worse, these trucks create 260 million tons of climate pollution a year.
Tell the EPA to crack down on diesel pollution!
Big truckmakers like Volvo and Daimler talk a big game when it comes to their commitments to reduce pollution — but behind the scenes, they’re working overtime to weaken EPA’s heavy duty vehicles standard and allow trucks to heap pollution on our communities.
But there’s a perfect opportunity for us to fight back. The EPA is currently considering how strong to make rules that would regulate the amount of allowable pollution from heavy-duty vehicles, and we need EVERYONE to raise their voices and demand an end to dirty diesel pollution!
