Latino Victory endorsed candidates who come from all walks of life and understand that with their voices at the table, the policies enacted will positively impact their future constituents. Their lived experiences as Latinos in the United States and their track record in giving back to the community are why voters overwhelmingly support them. Latino voters helped Democrats win in important battleground state down-ballot races. In 2023, we endorsed 38 candidates – an unprecedented amount of candidates – during an off-year election. More and more Latinos are stepping up and breaking barriers to run for office and we are proud to stand with them! Some highlights from candidates endorsed this cycle include:
- Regina Romero was re-elected as the mayor of Tucson in Arizona
- Alfonso Lopez, Fernando “Marty” Martinez, and Phil Hernandez helped flip the House in Virginia, giving Democrats a solid win
- Chris Falcon broke barriers by becoming the first Latino County Clerk of Courts in Virginia’s history
- Eliazar Posada who became the first openly LGBTQ+ Latino in the state after winning a special election last year, was re-elected to the Carrboro Town Council
- Pierina Sanchez and Jennifer Gutierrez, New York City city council members, decisively won their re-elections
- Jaime Arroyo was re-elected to the Lancaster City Council
- Mario Castillo, who stands to become the first LGBTQ+ council member in District H on the Houston City Council, is heading to the December 9th runoff election
Last night’s election results revealed that voters not only want freedom and choice on the ballot, but they also want true champions of working-class families to build Latino political power.
