In last night’s Republican presidential debate, 2 candidates (Nikki Haley
and Chris Christie) said out loud something Donald Trump has tried to keep
under wraps: Republicans want to cut Social Security benefits.
The Washington Post recently reported that every budget Trump proposed
"included cuts to Social Security and Medicare programs."
Chris Christie really let the cat out of the bag, saying "there are only
three things" that could possibly be done with Social Security: raise the
retirement age, cut some people out of the program, or raise taxes.
80% of the public supports raising taxes on billionaires and the
ultra-wealthy and applying some of that money to Social Security --
especially since billionaire Elon Musk only pays Social Security taxes on
his first $160,000 of his income. In fact, most Democrats in Congress
support some version of increasing benefits for our seniors -- something
that's also 80% popular with voters.
But Christie said the Republican position out loud: "We should not raise
those taxes."
Polling shows voters are not aware that Republicans want to cut Social
Security. Are you up for working with us to make this a top issue in 2024?

Many proposals from the White House and Congress support taxing
billionaires, the ultra-wealthy, and corporations that use loopholes to
avoid paying their fair share.
Together, they would raise trillions of dollars -- enough to put money
into existing Social Security benefits AND expand them for our
grandparents and parents. One leading proposal would increase benefits for
all seniors by $200 per month, which would raise quality of life for
millions.
Republicans in Congress are pushing a "debt commission" with the real goal
of cutting Social Security. Like Chris Christie, they say nothing should
be done to tax the wealthy -- just cut grandma’s benefits and call it a
day.
But with all the craziness in the news, polling shows the public is not
yet aware. We need to identify people like you across the nation who
believe that we must make this a top issue in 2024.
