Dear John,
On Tuesday, voters across the country turned out to vote in statewide and local elections—and one thing is (yet again!) clear: people support the right to abortion. To catch you up:
* Abortion is now constitutionally protected in Ohio! Abortion was on the ballot in Ohio, and it won. With an over 12-point margin, voters overwhelmingly demonstrated that the right to reproductive freedom is incredibly important and should not be taken away by extremists. We are thrilled for Ohioans who voted to restore the right to abortion and expand reproductive rights in the Midwest!
* We congratulate Governor Andy Beshear who was re-elected as governor in Kentucky and the pro-abortion state legislators who won their elections in Virginia! We are excited for these lawmakers to fight for abortion access and push back on extreme anti-abortion attacks, including the 15-week ban that Youngkin tried to dress up as a "compromise".
We look forward to working with lawmakers and advocates to help address the immediate, devastating harm of losing the right to abortion. The right to abortion is fundamental to our ability to be truly free to control our own bodies, lives, and futures. We need to keep building toward a world where we are guaranteed affordable and available abortion care in our communities, without stigma, shame, or barriers. The National Women’s Law Center will always fight for abortion and for you.
In solidarity,
Heather Shumaker
