On Election Day this past Tuesday, voters like you made your voices heard loud and clear: Abortion access is a fundamental right, and extreme bans on abortion will be rejected loudly by the people.

 

Pro-choice, progressive candidates and ballot issues succeeded in decisive swing-state races across the board. Here are our biggest takeaways from Tuesday’s elections:

 

In Virginia, Democrats held the State Senate and flipped the House of Delegates blue to secure pro-choice majorities in both chambers of the state legislature. Now, Governor Glenn Youngkin’s far-right abortion ban has zero chance of becoming law, saving abortion access for millions of Virginians.

In Ohio, voters passed an amendment that enshrines abortion access in the state constitution, blocking extremist bans and restrictions on abortion across Ohio.

In Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear won reelection over an extremist Republican who supported a ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. Now, abortion access could be expanded for millions of Kentuckians.

And in Pennsylvania, Democrats expanded their majority on the state Supreme Court, ensuring that extreme abortion bans will not stand in the state.
