John,
This week saw major victories for progressives and working-class people across the country: -
Ohioans voted in favor of enshrining reproductive freedom in the state’s constitution. This is a significant win in such a critical swing state, showing that abortion access remains a top concern.
-
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat in an overwhelmingly red state, was elected to a second term. Beshear has pushed to protect and expand abortion rights in Kentucky. He is a staunch supporter of organized labor, joining striking UAW workers on the picket line in Louisville in September.
- Virginia Democrats regained the State House and maintained their majority in the State Senate with the election of seven progressive, working-class candidates and a promise to protect the right to choose in the Old Dominion.
So what can these wins tell us about 2024? Organizing around working-class concerns is not just the right thing to do morally and economically speaking, it’s strategically necessary. That means standing up for workers' right to organize, fighting for an economy that works for working people, and fighting for abortion rights. Moreover, it means standing up to right-wing extremists who seek to move our country backward. Thank you for your activism and all that you do. Together, we can create a stronger, more inclusive democracy and nation that benefits all of us. Onward, Ro |
