Dear Morris County Democrats,
Yesterday was a good day for Democrats nationally! In Ohio, voters supported a woman's right to choose. In Kentucky, the Democratic governor was re-elected, and, Virginia Democrats took back full control of the Legislature!
Here in New Jersey, Democrats expanded our lead in the General Assembly and held onto our 25/40 state Senate majority. Locally in Morris County, we re-elected all of our incumbents and held onto Democratic seats. We won two new seats and regained control in Chatham Township, with Jennifer Rowland and Marty McHugh defeating incumbents! Chatham Borough elected its first woman Democratic Mayor, Carolyn Dempsey. In Mendham Township, Committeewoman Amalia Duarte (who is also our Morris County Democratic Committee Chair) soundly defeated a Republican challenger. And, there are a few local races too close to call; we are hoping the final result is positive!
At the state and county level, our Morris candidates finished with strong vote totals that will only grow with inclusion of additional Vote by Mail and provisional ballots. While we didn't oust any state and county incumbent Republicans, our candidates put them on notice: Morris County is trending Blue!
Thank you to all of our candidates for running, giving voters a choice and highlighting important issues! Let's congratulate their campaign teams and volunteers for working hard over the past many months!
Meanwhile, you can continue to support Morris County Democrats by becoming a Sustaining Member! Get more information.
Look for information about a December holiday party coming soon!
We are excited with the momentum from last night building into 2024, which will be a vital year in our democracy!!
