 Dear Neighbor,
This Saturday, Americans across the country will pause to honor those who have sacrificed on our behalf to protect our great nation. I want to sincerely thank our Veterans who put our country first and sacrificed so much to defend our freedom.
There is much that we can do to show our appreciation to those men and women who put on the uniform for our country. This year, I was proud to champion a veterans funding bill that provided our heroes with the resources they need and deserve.
Most of us know someone who has served us in the military. I am proud to be able to call my late father-in-law, Jim Sumption (left), a real-life hero for his Navy service during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Honolulu in the Pacific. Jim left high school one year early to join the Navy ? where he earned a Purple Heart! He later returned to finish high school and then attended Augustana University, where he used his 6-foot-5 frame churches.
Jim?s service and legacy, along with that of thousands of other heroes that live among us or are remembered this Saturday, have blessed us with a level of prosperity and liberty that millions of people throughout history never had the opportunity to experience.
Please pause, say a prayer, and take time to express your gratitude for our brave veterans this Veterans Day. I plan to attend an event to dedicate a new veterans memorial in New Munich 11 a.m. Saturday and look forward to seeing a good turnout to support our local heroes.
Sincerely,
Paul
