Veterans Update
Veterans Day is a time for us all to reflect on the sacrifices made by the courageous men and women who have selflessly put themselves in harm's way to defend our great nation. The devotion to duty demonstrated by our veterans is nothing short of inspiring. These individuals have put their own safety on the line to protect our nation and keep our citizens safe.
We owe our veterans a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid. It is our responsibility to ensure that they are always treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. We must also remember the sacrifices made by their families, who have stood by their loved ones through long deployments and other challenges.
There is much that we can do to show our appreciation to those men and women who put on the uniform for our country. This year, I was proud to champion a Veteran's funding bill that provided our heroes with the resources they need and deserve:
- Additional funding in bonus payments to post-9/11 veterans and expanded eligibility so that more veterans could receive this financial support
- Funding for new Veterans homes in Bemidji, Montevideo, and Preston
- Increased Veterans GI tuition and apprenticeship benefits so that veterans have access to more opportunities to further their careers
If you would like additional information on any of the above items, please visit the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs website at www.mn.gov/mdva/.
So, as we come together to honor our veterans this Saturday, let us take a moment to reflect on their service and sacrifice. Let us also remember that their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy today.
May God bless all of our veterans!
